Happiness

For my initial post I would like to share a favorite poem of mine. I once painted it on the walls of my apartment, and always find that it brings me inner peace.

You Have To Believe

You have to believe in happiness,
Or happiness never comes;
I know that a bird chirps none the less
When all he finds are crumbs.

You have to believe that the buds will blow,
Believe in the grass in the days of snow;
Ah, that's the reason a bird can sing-
On his darkest day he believes in Spring.

And Wednesday's weather was a tease, but it reminded me that Spring is just around the corner.

Great start.

What a wonderful poem. Last week I was explaining to a student how I choose to believe in students' honesty because it would be too terrible for me and them if I did not believe. So sometimes I might get "the wool pulled over my eyes" but that's OK with me. It's the believing that is so important. DC

So happy to know someone else has painted inspirational words on apt. walls! I just might do that tonight. Thanks for such a lovely poem.

I'm not in your class but I belong to a list serve that mentioned the class. From there I went to the class blog and from there I found you and the poem.

Quite a journey huh? You are not that ancient and I encourage you to stick with it. This current "wired" generation needs input that only those of us from the prior century can give.

Thanks for the poem.

I was given up for adoption at birth. Many years later when I was a young adult I went in search of my birth mother. When I went to the agency that placed me they gave a small piece of paper. On it was this poem. Since that day I have kept a copy of it on my refrigerator. I never met my birth mother but I know that her heart was in the right place and leaving this note for me to find someday was her way of wishing me a better life then she could provide
